Client Overview

Our client is a toddler who lives at home with his mum and dad and two older siblings. Our client has complex needs and relies on a tracheostomy and ventilator to enable him to breathe. The support of carers is really vital for parents as he will need closely monitoring 24 hours a day to ensure that his airway is maintained. Overnight care will enable mum and dad to get some sleep so that they can care for him during the day.

The Role

We are seeking to recruit a small team of healthcare assistants to provide this support.

The shifts will primarily be night shifts worked over 7 days a week; weekend working will be included on a rota basis.

At times the family will need daytime support. needs. The care team must provide cover for each other’s leave periods.

  • Providing support with all aspects of personal cares
  • Supporting with clinical tasks such as tracheostomy care and ventilator management
  • Observation and monitoring of the child following clinical protocols and record keeping
  • Support with administration of medication
  • Providing stimulation and engagement through play.
  • Delivering care that is child centred and that enables parents to maintain their role as informal carers.
  • During night shifts care workers will carry out tasks to maintain the child’s environment such as cleaning and re-stocking of supplies and consumables.

Desired skills

The ideal candidate

We are looking to recruit a small team of confident and capable healthcare assistants to work together to provide this support. You must have a minimum of 12 months care experience ideally with some exposure to clinical care tasks. Having experience working with children would also be an advantage however specific training will be given to meet the needs of this child.

You must be compassionate, caring and extremely reliable. This is a responsible role requiring workers who are methodical and who can work within clear guidelines and protocols.

Having energy and enthusiasm and a fun outlook is also key as this is a family home.
