Job description

Client Overview

Our client is a baby who was born with a very rare condition. As a result of this condition she requires support with breathing and has a tracheostomy and humidifier. She is fed via a naso-gastric tube and has very limited vision.

Owing to her complex health needs she has spent the first months of life in hospital but is now ready to go home where she will live with her mum and dad and older sister.
Her family very naturally want her to be at home with them in order for them to have a family life.

The support of carers is really vital for parents as she will need closely monitoring 24 hours a day to ensure that her airway is maintained.

Overnight care will enable mum and dad to get some sleep, and day care will enable mum to drop her sister off at school whilst dad goes out to work.

The Role

We are looking for day and night workers to provide this support. At the family's request we are looking to recruit female workers only.

The care will be provided over 7 nights and so weekend working will be included on a rota basis. Day time support will mostly be provided in mornings but some flexibility will be required to meet the family’s needs. The care team must provide cover for each other’s leave periods.

  • Providing support with all aspects of personal cares
  • Supporting with clinical tasks such as tracheostomy care and humidifier management
  • Observation and monitoring of the child following clinical protocols and record keeping
  • Providing stimulation and engagement through play, sound and touch
  • Delivering care that is child centred and that enables parents to maintain their role as informal carers

Desired skills

The ideal candidate

We are looking to recruit a small team of confident and capable healthcare assistants to work together to provide this support. You must have a minimum of 12 months care experience ideally with some exposure to clinical care tasks.

Having experience working with children would also be an advantage however specific training will be given to meet the needs of this baby.

You must have a mature outlook, a strong disposition and be able to work with the family in a sensitive and respectful manner.

This baby has very complex needs and this role at times may be very emotionally challenging.

Being able to endure the challenge with the support of the Apollo management team will be critical to the success of this babies transition to home.
